Imaging and sensing from space?

Image sensors play a very important role in space projects for operational missions, science projects and even for modern optical telecommunication.  All possible wavelengths are of interest. Ranging from high energy particle detectors, over visible till the far infrared and the mm-wave range.

At Xenics we are mostly confronted with requests for imaging and sensing in the range between the visible and the thermal infrared. In this range we offer our standard range of products for LEO or manned space flights, designed with a COTS philosophy; in this case also complete Xenics cameras can fly. We are also open to negotiate on dedicated products for long endurance missions with a higher radiation background.

What do we offer?

Xenics has a wide range of products which can fulfil your needs in imaging and sensing. Our main work horses are InGaAs based cameras and Focal Plane Arrays (FPA's) covering the Visible, NIR and SWIR (VNS) bands as well as uncooled microbolometer arrays covering the [3-5 µm] and the [8 -14 µm] band. We also offer cooled solutions in the MWIR and LWIR bands.

For the VNS range, we have both linear and 2D Focal Planes. These cover a very broad range of photon flexes and integration times. We offer very low noise, long integration time devices for e.g. electro-luminescence experiments or astronomy. In our product range we also have devices for regular imaging and fast devices for hyperspectral imaging or waterfront sensing and optical telecommunication.

Next to our Focal Planes, we offer an entire range of  linear VNS image sensors which have proven their reliability in several vegetation and earth radiation budget missions:

Xlin-1.7-3000 for earth observation The Xlin-1.7-3000 detector is specifically designed for earth observation to reveal lots of detailed information on vegetation, clouds, humidity and other atmospheric conditions.
Space developments resulting in industrial camera platforms Xenics, involved in several space projects such as Proba-V, is responsible for the design and development of the short-wave infrared detectors. A novel high resolution InGaAs line-scan camera from Xenics conquers many applications in the near infrared.
Sensors for remote sensing by Xenics The main activities of Xenics are the design and manufacture of linear arrays, FPA and cameras for the Short Wavelength range (SWIR), based on InGaAs detectors. Exactly this wavelength band is of high interest in the remote sensing of vegetation properties. The water (vapor) content of the atmosphere causes a strong absorption at 1.45 μm, but above this absorption peak, the reflectance in the [1.5 – 1.7 μm] band is very interesting to determine the liquid water content in the plants and for the identification of tree types and plant conditions. For the more Mediterranean area the SWIR band is also important to detect wild fire affected areas and even for the detection of active fires.
