High speed midwave & longwave infrared (MWIR & LWIR) cooled cameras are used in various high speed thermography applications. In general, these applications focus on capturing the thermal radiation of any object within the field of view (FOV) of the camera. All this at a very high speed with several hundreds of frames per seconds.
High speed imaging using a MWIR or LWIR camera is a typical request from the R&D and Safety & Security markets. In an R&D environment, fast moving objects like car tires on a testing bench require a quick analysis of very swift temperature changes. For customers active in the Safety & Security market, these cameras are used to track the hot exhausts of airplanes or rocket engines.

A key element of our mid- & long wave infrared cameras are the detectors. They are able to detect ultra-low temperature differences (as low as 17 mK) in a capturing mode at several hundred frames per second. In case this is still not sufficient, you can further increase the frame rate by windowing the detector. This results in one or multiple sub-windows read-out on the detector.
Every thermal scene is unique. Therefore it is necessary to adjust the integration time, the imaging speed – especially in sub-windowing mode – as well as the temperature range and detector sensitivity to the thermal scene.
Besides powerful core electronics, a rugged high speed data interface like CameraLink is required. This interface assures a fast and complete data transfer to the PC, such that no frames of your image sequence are lost.
As it is important for some customers, we offer our cameras with a wide selection of interchangeable lenses.
Typical Safety & Security users will not require interchangeable lenses as the camera is built into a dedicated system. These customers typically want a ruggedized camera core with one dedicated lens, able to withstand high shock and vibration levels. Therefore we offer our XCO-640 MWIR cooled core.
