Founded in 2000 as a commercial spin-off from IMEC (Inter-university Microelectronics Centre), one of Europe's leading research centers , Xenics is now a fast growing, privately held high-tech company focusing on advanced infrared detector technologies. It holds the lead in the development future-oriented products and applications of III-V compound materials (InGaAs) for worldwide markets. Xenics is a well-funded, profitable mid-size company in full expansion.

Xenics is currently expanding its headquarters in the town of Leuven, close to Brussels, which is the seat of the EU Commission and other European authorities and offices.

Leuven is an outgoing, pleasant, and lively university town harboring a student population of about 35 000 and offering attractive living and entertainment options. Leuven is also the seat of the Flanders Brabant regional government. In the last 20 years, it attracted a host of major high-tech companies located in industrial parks surrounding the historic town.

Xenics is located within one of Leuven's fast growing industrial parks , located to the south-east of the city. Major freeways and connector roads are in the immediate vicinity. Brussels Zaventem international airport is just a short train or car ride away.
