Fitchburg, MA; December 28, 2005 – Headwall Photonics, the world’s leading supplier of high performance integrated spectrometer systems for spectral imaging and chemical sensing solutions, has extended its product offering in the field of hyperspectral imaging with the launch and sale of integrated hyperspectral sensors that address the needs of customers working in the short wave infrared SWIR spectral region (1000 nanometers to 2500 nanometers).
The Hyperspec-SWIR™ sensor establishes industry leading benchmark imaging performance and provides customers with exceptional spatial and spectral resolution. The integrated system consists of Headwall’s Hyperspec-SWIR™ imaging spectrograph coupled and aligned with a high performance MCT array from Headwall’s Alliance partner, Xenics, Inc. The core underlying optical technology driving the sensor performance is Headwall’s high efficiency, aberration-corrected holographic gratings which drive the optical performance and throughput of the integrated system.
“The Hyperspec-SWIR™ offers customers two key benefits: first, this analytical instrument addresses the increasingly important spectral range of 1000 to 2500 nanometers, and secondly, operational deployment is greatly simplified by offering a completely integrated system comprised of fore-optics, spectrometer, and MCT detector” said David Bannon, Vice President of Sales & Marketing. “With this product launch, we have entered into a very strategic partnership with Xenics, a leading manufacturer of infrared detectors. As hyperspectral technology moves from military surveillance environments to commercial applications, our engineering relationship and collaboration with Xenics will become a key attribute of our continued success in the area of hyperspectral imaging”.
“We expect this collaboration with Headwall to result in hyperspectral imaging systems which offer customers the industry’s highest levels of photometric accuracy” said Bob Grietens, CEO of Xenics. “We are very excited about the partnership. As one of the pioneers of hyperspectral imaging technology, Headwall has achieved a leadership position and has developed an extensive hyperspectral product portfolio that allows customers to adopt this technology across a broad set of military and commercial applications”.
